I inherited a patterned scarf with a damaged border and I would like to repair it so I can wear it again. I would rather test carefully than unpick stitches from fragile fabric later. Only the edging needs replacing but its original shade is difficult to identify now. My local shop has a muted green ribbon and a much warmer brown ribbon. A perfect color match seems impossible so I am considering a deliberately visible repair. This led me to read about color analysis because the repaired border will sit close to my face when the scarf is tied. I can pin short samples in place before sewing anything onto the old fabric. Its sentimental value matters to me and making it wearable matters just as much. Would you prioritize matching the remaining fabric or comparing each trim against the wearer?
